Born: New York, NY, 1957
Anthony John Ryder studied painting and drawing with Ted Seth Jacobs in New York City and in France from 1983 to 1989. He was chosen by Mr. Jacobs to be his substitute at the New York Academy in 1985. Since then he has taught at many schools in the United States, as well as in France and the Netherlands. In 1998 he wrote and illustrated The Artist’s Complete Guide to Figure Drawing (Watson-Guptill, 2000). His work is based on a synthesis of observation and painting theory. His teaching method combines class demonstrations with individual critiques. He opened his own school of painting and drawing, the Ryder Studio, in 2007. He lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico with his wife, Celeste.
